The African Artists-in-Residence Program is a once-a-year semester-long joint residency project and collaboration between University of Florida and New World School of the Arts Dance Division with visiting African artist-in-residence culminating in two African Dance Celebration performances, one in Miami and one in Gainesville. This program gives students and community members the opportunity to work directly with performing artists and musicians from the continent of Africa. African dance performance values dance, drumming, song, symbol and community response as interdependent parts of the whole. This dynamic interplay reinvigorates understanding of performance and community outreach.
