SUBMISSION OF PORTFOLIO AND APPLICATION:
The first step to apply to NWSA is to submit a completed application packet and a digital portfolio. The portfolio is perhaps the single most important part of an applicants audition. Digital images of your work must be sent on a CD or DVD that is Macintosh readable. We recommend including a duplicate disk or printed examples of your work for backup. All images must be placed in a folder named with this convention: LastnameFistname. The images should have a resolution of about 72 dpi. Do not format images in Photoshop or Flash. Files may be sent in tiff or jpeg format or as a Quicktime or PDF presentation. A printed inventory of works in chronological order, including title, date, medium, and dimensions is also required. Notes describing the idea or function of the work may be included. Please number the digital images to correspond with your inventory. Make sure you label your CD or DVD: LastnameFistname. All web sites should be submitted as PDF; do not merely supply us with a URL. The applicant’s portfolio must include:
• 5 observational drawings/figure drawings
• 5 pieces that represent the applicant’s interest in their desired major: Drawing, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Painting, Photography, or Sculpture.
• 10 pieces of personal work that reveal the applicant’s creative spirit, sense of design, technical skill and experimentation.
The following should be received by NWSA’s Visual Arts department by Friday February 17th 2012:
• Digital Portfolio
• Application Packet (all information must be filled out)
• Two letters of recommendation
• Transcripts
• Completed questionnaire
Mail all application items to:
College Student Affairs, Room #5605
New World School of the Arts
300 NE 2nd Avenue
Miami, FL 33132
Once digital portfolios are reviewed, NWSA will contact those students that have been recommended by the faculty to move forward in the acceptance process. At this time you will schedule a personal interview and portfolio review.
Portfolio interviews are required of candidates residing in South Florida. Candidates who apply from outside South Florida will be required to have a phone interview.
SUBMISSION OF A SKETCHBOOK;
Although a sketchbook is not required, it is highly desirable. In many cases the sketchbook provides the review committee with valuable insights into the applicant’s personal experiences and ability to explore and investigate ideas. The contents of the sketchbook should be a visual record executed in varied media, with concepts expressed through quick gesture sketches as well as more developed ideas.
