Acclaimed artist and NWSA alumnus
Bert Rodriguez returns to speak to students
as part of Make Art Work [MAW]

MIAMI--- New World School of the Arts (NWSA) continues its lecture series, Make Art Work (MAW), with acclaimed visual artist Bert Rodriguez.  A graduate of New World School of the Arts, Mr. Rodriguez has exhibition internationally and participated in the 2008 Whitney Biennial.

Mr. Rodriguez’s talk, A Little Bertie Told Me: Conversation with Bert Rodriguez, will take place on Wednesday, March 17 in the NWSA ARTSEEN Gallery, 2215 NW 22nd Avenue, Wynwood Art District, at 6:30 PM. Rodriguez will share his artistic process and students will have an opportunity for dialogue with Mr. Rodriguez with a question and answer session to follow the talk.

Bert Rodriguez works in a variety of media including film, video, photography, sculpture, installation and sound.  He has exhibited and received commissions through many prestigious institutions all over the world.  Recent projects include A Wall I Built With My Father and A Meal I Made With My Mother, two site specific installations for Le Plateau, FRAC Ile de France Paris (2008); In the Beginning… for the Whitney Biennial, New York (2008), and Where You End And I Begin; a performance based installation commissioned by the Frieze Foundation on the occasion of Frieze Art Fair, London (2008), and IN YOUR OWN IMAGE: The Best of Bert Rodriguez Greatest Hits Vol. I, a survey show presented by the Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach, FL. (2009).

Beginning its second year, Make Art Work is designed to bring professionals in the art world together with students and the community for a dialogue on the business of art. The series will focus on providing tools, guidance and strategies for success to the next generation of artists and will expand understanding of what it takes to live as an artist in the twenty-first century. A question and answer session following each talk allows students and the public opportunities for direct communication with leaders in the art world.

The Final MAW talks for this season will take place on April 7, from 6:30 – 7:30 pm in the NWSA ARTSEEN Gallery, 2215 NW 2nd Avenue, Wynwood Art District.
