NWSA High School Choir offers retrospective holiday music selection during its popular annual Holiday Concert

MIAMI---The spirit of the holidays will fill the air as the New World School of the Arts High School Choir performs its enchanting Holiday Concert. Audiences of all ages will once again be captivated by popular seasonal selections, which capture the spirit of the holidays.  Scheduled for Friday, December 2 - 7:30 P.M. at Trinity Cathedral, 464 NE 16 Street, downtown Miami. General admission is $10; Students and seniors is $5.
A concert designed to celebrate New World School of the Arts’ 25th anniversary, the music selection represents a collection of pieces from across the 16 years that Director of Vocal Music, Albert Clark, has been teaching at NWSA.  A few, such as Mack Wilberg's outstanding arrangement of the traditional English Carol "I Saw Three Ships," are brand new; others, like Kenneth Hodgson's "Shalom Chaverim," date back to the Director’s first year on the faculty of New World School of the Arts.  The music on the program runs the gamut from the beautiful "Esurientes" by John Rutter—with a stunning soprano solo by senior, Frances Collins— to Vince Guraldi's "Christmas Time Is Here," made famous in the TV special "A Charlie Brown Christmas."
The NWSA High School Concert Choir will be joined by the Southwood Middle School Concert Choir under thedirection of Deborah Mar.
Dr. Clark is a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania. He received the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota, where he studied conducting with Paul Christiansen. Following graduation, he continued his conducting studies with Morris Beachy at the University of Texas at Austin, receiving the degrees of Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts. In the fall of 1996, Dr. Clark assumed the position of Director of Vocal Music of the high school vocal program at New World School of the Arts. Since that time the Concert Choir has been a steady recipient of superior ratings at district and state festivals. In 2002, the choir made its Carnegie Hall debut in a performance of the MozartRequiem under the baton of the eminent British composer and conductor, JohnRutter.
New World School of the Arts was created by the Florida Legislature, as a center of excellence in the performing and visual arts. It is an educational partnership of Miami Dade County Public Schools, Miami Dade College and the University of Florida.
