Radicated Retrospective [rooted:established art for academia]
aims to raise $50,000 to benefit South Florida’s premier art schools
Design and Architecture Senior High and New World School of the Arts

MIAMI--- New World School of the Arts [NWSA] and Design and Architecture Senior High [DASH] will soon be the recipients of an unusual bequest. Conceived by husband-and-wife-team, artists and educators Dr. Stacey Mancuso and Tom Wyroba as a way to raise much needed funds for both institutions, Radicated Retrospective: [rooted:established art for academia] offers guests the unique opportunity to own original art work at an affordable price while benefiting South Florida’s premier arts schools. All art work displayed in the show, regardless of the size, will be sold for $50 each. The proceeds from all sales will be used to establish the WyMan Foundation to benefit both schools equally, through scholarships and/or endowments.

The exhibition opens on Saturday, February 13, at NWSA ARTSEEN Gallery, during second Saturday Art Walk in Wynwood. 2215 NW 2nd Avenue. Opening reception is from 7:00pm – 10:00 pm. Admission is free and open to the public. Exhibit runs through Saturday, February 27. Viewings are only by appointment by calling 305-237-3620.

“This is a fresh and innovative initiative that holds much financial promise for both schools,” stated Maggy Cuesta, Dean of visual arts at NWSA. “When Tom and Stacey proposed the exhibit and explained the concept we were immediately enthused and touched. The goal of $50,000 might sound high, especially at $50 per art work, but we believe it is attainable. After all, it’s not every day that two artists of this caliber come together to offer such a gift. Sharing a life together makes for an interesting story, but sharing a studio for a lifetime makes for extraordinary art! We are certain that guests will discover and uncover the perfect piece of art during this show, while supporting our schools in an unimaginable way for years to come.”

Ranging from eight-foot paintings to four-inch collages, the impressively diverse collection, comprised of more than 1,000 works of art runs the gamut of styles, techniques and movements. The varied collection includes paintings, collages, drawings, photography and installations – some recently created while others were conceived and developed up to three decades ago. “It is a challenge for two artists to share a studio for thirty years,” said Mancuso, “The challenge increases exponentially when the two artists are husband and wife.”  “Our objective is to establish a foundation to support the college education of worthy students from NWSA and DASH so that our community can continue to reap the benefits of creating, nurturing and developing world artists” added Wyroba.

Born in Buffalo, New York, Thomas Wyroba has resided in Miami most of his adult life. Wyroba earned a BFA in Ceramics from Ohio State University, and earned the first MFA in Conceptual/Performance Art also from Ohio State. With a teaching career that spans for more than 30 years, Wyroba has taught painting and drawing during past 24 years at New World School of the Arts, at both, the high school and the college level. In addition, Wyroba is an adjunct professor at the Maryland Institute College of Art in the summer pre-college program in Aix-en-Provence, France. Wyroba’s most respected accolades include the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts’ national teacher of the year, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards distinguished teacher for three consecutive years, and distinguished teacher for the Presidential Scholar Award five times, during his career at Advanced Placement Studio courses.

A native of New York, Dr. Stacey Mancuso has led Design and Architecture Senior High School (DASH), as Principal for the past 12 years. Mancuso earned a Bachelor’s of Fine Art at Syracuse University, a Master’s of Fine Art at Ohio State University and another at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, and a Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership at Nova Southeastern University. An accomplished artist, Mancuso has exhibited her work in prestigious galleries and museums around the globe, including the past three years in Miami’s Art Basel. Teaching sculpture to seniors at DASH, Mancuso is a versatile painter, sculptor and installation artist.
