Clubs & Organizations

Below is a list of all the clubs and organizations available for NWSA high school students.

Student Government

Sponsor: Ms. N. Ratner
Purpose of Club: Provide a way for students to be involved with their school as a totality.
Type of Club: Elected office.
Membership Requirements: Meet school board requirements, be elected to office, attend meetings, and participate in school activities.
Dues: None.


Senior Class

Sponsor: Dr. C. M. Ledesma
Purpose of Club: Represent the senior class as a functioning part of the student body.
Type of Club: Elected Office
Membership Requirements: Officers elected by the entire senior class. Participate in class and school activities.
Dues: None.


Junior Class

Sponsor: Mr. Ratner
Purpose of Club: Represent the junior class as a functioning part of the student body.
Type of Club: Elected Office.
Membership Requirements: Officers elected by the entire class. Board members sign up and stay members as a matter of participation. Participate in class and school activities.
Dues: None.


Sophomore Class

Sponsor: Dr. L. Kirn
Purpose of Club: Engender a feeling of belonging and camaraderie among the 10th grade class, as well as provide meaningful community service opportunities for class members.
Type of Club: Elected Office.
Membership Requirements: Member of 10th grade class. Participate in class and school activities.
Dues: None.


Freshman Class

Sponsor: Dr. M. Miranda
Purpose of Club: Develop leadership skills, cooperation, fund raising, and participate in service projects.
Type of Club: Elected Office.
Membership Requirements: Belong to the 9th grade, be willing to work and cooperate. Participate in class and school activities.
Dues: None.


Amnesty International

Sponsor: Mr. E. Adjamah
Purpose of Club: Help victims of political prosecution throughout the world. Circulate petitions, write letters to government officials, do posters and morning announcements in an effort to educate fellow students and pressure governments.
Type of Club: Interest. Provide a minimum of two school-wide service projects.
Membership Requirements: Conscience, interest.
Dues: $3.00.


Best Buddies

Sponsor: Ms. C. Kinney
Purpose of the Club: To provide an opportunity for socialization for persons with mental retardation.
Type of Club: Service/Interest
Membership Requirements: Complete an application. Attend chapter's organizational meeting, and an interview with a representative of the chapter.
Dues: $3.00


Cultural Heritage Club

Sponsor: Ms. Clarke, Dr. Miranda
Purpose of Club: To promote understanding and awareness of the different cultures in our society and our school. To promote and coordinate cultural activities.
Type of Club: Interest. Provide a minimum of two school-wide service projects.
Membership Requirements: Interest.
Dues: $5.00.


Environmental Club

Sponsor: Ms. C. Cook
Purpose of Club: Awareness of the environment.
Type of Club: Interest, service.
Membership Requirements: Show interest in the environment. Provide service to school and community (minimum of 2 community and 2 school service projects).
Dues: $3.00 per year, interest.


Future Business Leaders of America

Sponsor: Ms. L. Rito
Purpose of Club: F.B.L.A. is a non-profit organization for all high school students participating in business and business-related programs. " It provides students the opportunity to apply their classroom instruction in business practices and procedures to leadership developmentalities and competitive event experiences."
Type of Club: Interest.
Membership Requirements: Limited to students currently enrolled in NWSA. Interested students must complete a membership application. Membership is not restricted due to race, creed, ethnic origin, handicap, or sex. Provide a minimum of two school-wide service projects.
Dues: $10.00


Future Educators of America

Sponsor: Ms. L. Rito
Purpose of Club: Enhance the image of teaching as a profession, promote career opportunities in education, and provide opportunities for young men and women to explore their potentialities as educators.
Type of Club: Chapter.
Membership Requirements: Be interested in teaching.
Dues: $3.00


Key Club

Sponsor: Ms. V. Navarro
Purpose of Club: Develop initiative and leadership, provide experience in living and working together, prepare for useful citizenship,

give primal importance to the human and spiritual rather than the material values of life, render unselfish service, and build better communities.
Type of Club: Service.
Membership Requirements: Be in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade, interested in service, have C average, be of good character, possess leadership potential, and be willing to perform at least 50 hours of community service to the home, school, and community yearly (minimum of 2 community and 2 school service projects).
Dues: $10.00


Math Club / Math Honor Society

Sponsor: Ms. P. Forte
Purpose of Club: Go to math competitions and tutor students in math.
Type of Club: Interest, service.
Membership Requirements: Like math, attend required meetings. Honor society must meet the requirements set forth by National Chapter. Provide tutorial service to student body.
Dues: $5.00 (Honor Society; $3.00 Club)


National Art Honor Society

Sponsor: Mr. J. Hunter
Purpose of Club: Inspire and recognize students who have shown outstanding ability in art.
Type of Club: Achievement, honor.
Membership Requirements: Must meet National requirements in art, scholarship, service, and character. Provide tutorial service to student body.
Dues: $5.00


National Honor Society

Sponsor: Mr. E. Navarro
Purpose of Club: Honor high academic achievement, tutor students at NWSA.
Type of Club: Honor society.
Membership Requirements: One semester at NWSA and GPA of 3.65. Provide tutorial service to student body.
Dues: $5.00.


Oasis (Equal Access)

Custodian: Ms. S Clarke
Purpose of Club: Help gain better understanding of self, the relationship between God and man, and the effect these relationships have on our surroundings
Type of Club: Interest (Equal Access).
Membership Requirements: Open to all NWSA students.
Dues: None


S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Behavior)

Sponsor: Dr. L. Kirn
Purpose of Club: Help eliminate the drunk driver and save lives, alert high school students to the dangers of drinking and driving, conduct community alcohol awareness programs.
Type of Club: Service.
Membership Requirements: Open to all students currently enrolled in NWSA. Provide service to school and community (minimum of 2 community and 2 school service projects).
Dues: $3.00


Spanish National Honor Society (Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica)

Sponsor: Ms. M. Miranda
Purpose of Club: Encourage students to study Spanish language and culture.
Type of Club: Honor, academic.
Membership Requirements: 2 years of Spanish with a 3.5 overall average. Provide tutorial service to student body.
Dues: $10.00.


Tech Club / American Technology Honor Society

Sponsor: Ms. L. Rito
Purpose of Club: To serve the school (students, faculty, and administrators in the area of computer technology, eg. telecommunication, installation of software and hardware, troubleshooting, networking etc.
Type of Club: Service, vocational. Honor Society.
Membership Requirements: Interest and knowledge of computers. Agree to terms of contract. Provide service to the school and community (minimum of 2 community and 2 school service projects). Honor Society members must meet ATHS membership criteria.
Dues: $5.00.


Thespian Honor Society

Sponsor: Mr. J. Randolph
Purpose of Club: Support the high school-college drama program, use oneself as fully as possible, further theater in the school and community, use theater as a tool in performing community service.
Type of Club: Honor Society.
Membership Requirements: Earning 10 points = 100 hours of work - in visiting, lecturing, participating in productions. 5 points may be carried over from middle schools.
Dues: $3.50


Voices of Inspiration

Sponsor: Mr. C. Losa
Purpose of Club: To promote interest in singing. To provide needed service to the school and the community.
Type of Club: Service, interest, performing (minimum of 2 community and 2 school service projects).
Membership Requirements: Interest, and commitment to service.
Dues: TBA


Z Club

Sponsor: Dr. G. Tucker
Purpose of Club: Community and school service, foster leadership, encourage personal growth.
Type of Club: Service
Membership Requirements: Sponsorship by teacher and the club sponsor, attend all regularly scheduled meetings, take part in all activities.

Maintain an honest and trustworthy approach in one's personal and public life, interact with others. Provide service to school and community (minimum of 2 community and 2 school service projects).
Dues: $5.00.
