New World School of the Arts Summer Academy Now Offering Major Opportunity in Intense Two-Week Sessions, June 4-15 Held On-Site and Via Field Trips to Major Cultural Institutions For Arts-Oriented Students Entering 11th & 12th Grades
MIAMI---Offering a unique opportunity to 11th and 12th grade students who plan to attend arts colleges and pursue professional careers in the arts, the NEW WORLD SCHOOL OF THE ARTS SUMMER ARTS ACADEMY is now accepting applicants who wish to hone their skills under the personalized guidance of professional artists and faculty members in a two-week session, June 4-15, from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M., to be held at the New World School of the Arts (NWSA), 25 N.E. 2nd Street.
Students must be recommended by an arts teacher. The cost for the program is $625. Scholarships are available to minority and at-risk youth from low-income families who otherwise would not be able to afford this unique opportunity.
Embracing the full spectrum of Dance, Music, Theater and Visual Arts, sessions will include training, materials, lunch, snacks and field trips to a mix of arts institutions including the Miami Art Museum, a backstage tour and rehearsal at the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts, and a performances by dancers from Taiwan. At the conclusion of the two-week session, all summer arts participants will appear in a Student Showcase Performance.
The NWSA Sumer Arts Camp is funded in part by The Children’s Trust. The Trust is a dedicated source of revenue established by voter referendum to improve the lives of children and families in Miami-Dade County.
New World School of the Arts was created by the Florida Legislature as a center of excellence in the performing and visual arts, is an educational partnership of Miami Dade County Public Schools, Miami Dade College and the University of Florida.
