New World School of the Arts offer Portfolio Reviews and Alumni Lecture Series To all South Florida High School Students. Friday, January 18 at New World GalleryMIAMI--- As a new initiative, New World School of the Arts will offer a Portfolio Review Day open to South Florida high schools students, along with an alumni lecture series, announced Maggy Cuesta Dean of visual arts at NWSA. In attendance will be NWSA visual arts faculty and visual arts alumni Michael Vasquez, Chi Lam and Stephanie Garcia, to offer a lecture on their chosen career paths, achievements and experiences. Student guests will have an opportunity to show 20 original works and a sketchbook to NWSA faculty - by RSVP only – (limited to 30 reviews). Faculty and administration from all South Florida schools are invited to come for the morning presentation and tours. Porfolio Review Day at New World School of the Arts will showcase the Fine Arts, Electronic Media and Graphic Design disciplines and will revolve around discussions on individual career paths.
The Portfolio Review Day program runs from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the New World Gallery. New World School of the Arts, MDC Building 5, 25 NE 2nd Street, downtown Miami.
To RSVP for portfolio reviews, students must call 305-237-3597. Portfolio reviews are limited to the first 30 RSVPs.

It’s a wonderful way to introduce New World School of the Arts to South Florida student prospects, from where we draw much of the talent for our college program. By opening our doors, we also gain the opportunity to meet with students and faculty from other institutions and talk to them one-on-one to give them the attention they deserve” concluded Cuesta.

Michael Vasquez, 2004 alum from the NWSA visual arts program born in St. Petersburg Florida and living in Miami. Vasquez is currently exhibiting at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City. His art reflects many of today’s urban youth and portrays they’re lifestyle. Chi Lam is a graduate from NWSA with a dual major in graphic design and digital medium. A designer to the Rubell Family Collection, one of Lam’s major accomplishments was the nomination of two of his books into the Print Regional Design Annual. A graduate in photography from NWSA, Stephanie Garcia received her degree in 2007, focusing her unique stile on both traditional and digital photography. Garcia has been recognized in various exhibitions and is currently working at the Rubell Family Collection.
New World School of the Arts was created by the Florida Legislature as a center of excellence in the performing and visual arts, is an educational partnership of Miami Dade County Public Schools, Miami Dade College and the University of Florida.
