Explorations, faculty exhibition opens the 2008 art season at NWSA

showcases faculty works

MIAMI--- In a varied art exhibit titled “Explorations”, New World School of the Arts will showcase an extensive and varied body of work developed by the NWSA arts faculty. The work, as diverse as the artists, features sculptures, painting, drawing, photography and digital media. The NWSA visual arts faculty are all well recognized artists in their own field exhibiting in numerous galleries and museums throughout the nation and internationally. Exhibition will be open from Thursday, September 11 through Friday, October 10, 2008 at the New World Gallery. Free and open to the public Monday – Friday from 9:00 AM- 5:00 PM. An opening reception is scheduled for Thursday, September 11 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at New World Gallery, 25 NE 2nd Street, downtown Miami.

NWSA exhibiting faculty includes: Yasmin Samimy – photography; Louise Romeo – collage; Aramis O’Reilly – painting; Maria Martinez-Cañas – photography; Louisa Basnuevo – paining; Celeste Pierson – printmaking; Karen Rifas – sculpture and collage; Rosario Martinez-Cañas – installation; Michael Loveland – sculpture; Tony Fernandez –photography; Carlos Gallostra – painting; Gregory Davis – photography; Susan Banks – sculpture, glass, ceramics; Christy Ghast – video, sculpture; Carol Brown – painting; Mark Coetzee – video installation; Tom Wyroba – painting; Loni Anderson –Collage; Fred Snitzer – installation; Alisa Pitchenik – video.  

Through its gifted, emerging artists and unique programs, New World School of the Arts has become an educational and creative beacon of the arts. Trained by nationally renowned practicing artists, students are encouraged to develop a personal, artistic and aesthetic vision while mastering their own technical skills in traditional and new media. Areas of concentration for students seeking a four-year BFA college degree include drawing, electronic media, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.

New World School of the Arts was created by the Florida Legislature in 1984 as a center of excellence in the performing and visual arts. It is an educational partnership of Miami Dade County Public Schools, Miami Dade College and the University of Florida.
