Spirited High School Spring dance concert choreography evokes thought

Two high school dance students performing choreograhy titled NosotrosMiami--- This year’s New World School of the Arts’ High School Spring Dance Concert will be an exciting and varied program, featuring the work of respected choreographers including Kehynde Hill, Josée Garant and Peter London, among others.
The High School Spring Dance Concert starts at 7:30 PM on May 9. Other performances are on May 10, 15, 16 and 17 at 7:30 PM. New World Dance Theater, 25 NE 2nd Street, 8th floor, downtown, Miami. The program will feature a broad range of styles and motifs – from Gerard Ebitz’ lyrical ballet work, North by Northeast to the powerful new hip-hop dance created by professional guest artist, Kehynde Hill entitled (B)ear (N)o (W)itness set to an upbeat score of contemporary music.  Blood and Sun, Peter London’s new work is a moving modern dance in the Graham style, set to the music of both Bach and Reggae masters, while Rebecca Cannan’s dance, We’re All Crazy features an original score created and performed live by Sean Dibble, Ulysses Perez,Plinio Sanchez and Nathan Greenberg. In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the death of revered Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona, facultychoreographer Lara Murphy has created a beautiful and evocative contemporary ballet set to a selection of his music; and the program is completed by a driving contemporary work by guest choreographer Josee Garant entitled Forced Entry.

At New World School of the Arts dance students receive instruction from accomplished dancers and choreographers and grow through disciplined guidance and training as they develop their personal style and repertoire. Through its educational partnerships, NWSA’s audition-based programs, accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance, Music, Theater and Art and Design, offer the high school diploma as well as the BFA and BM college degrees. Areas of concentration in dance include Ballet, Choreography, Modern Dance and World Dance.
New World School of the Arts was created by the Florida Legislature as a center of excellence in the performing and visual arts. It is an educational partnership of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Miami Dade College and the University of Florida.
