NWSA music concerts offer world premiere compositions

Chamber Music and Piano recital pianist on stage.Miami — New World School of the Arts'  Chamber Music and Piano Recital will feature students of the NWSA College Music Division coming together to collaborate in one of music’s most revered genres, chamber music. The skill required to performs chamber works ultimately leads to communicating musical intention without words to interpret timeless works by beloved composers. In this performance, the young artists will be featuringworks by Turina from Spain, Villa Lobos from Brazil and Hungarian’s Bartok’s Contrast for violin, clarinet and piano, among many more. The performance will be rounded off by piano features of students from the piano studio professor Ciro Fodere.
College Chamber Music and Piano Recital is on Monday, April 6; 6:00 PM. First United Methodist Church of Miami. 400 Biscayne Blvd. Concert is Free and open to the public.
The College Composition Recital, under the direction of Professor Dr. Susan Epstein and Dr. Fred DeSena, will feature multiple world premieres of composers in the NWSA College Composition Program. Some of these works include Ximena Rivas's Timelapse in Stopmotion for Flute, piano & cello, Robert Briele's Sun movementfrom his work, Creation, for Flute, piano & viola, Harvey Davis' Preludes for piano, and Daniel McGee's Ripple Effect, that expresses the need to care for our water, are just a few of the new works which will be heard for the first time.
The College Composition Recital is on Thursday, April 9; 7:00 PM. First United Methodist Church of Miami. 400 Biscayne Blvd. Concert is Free and open to the public.
Music at NWSA: The academic music curriculum at NewWorld School of the Arts fosters creativity and develops knowledge of musical heritage. Course work strives to develop the student's growth and maturity in comprehensive musicianship. The study of music history and theory is pursued by taking a variety of classes including foundations of music; surveys of music history in the western world, jazz and pop music in America, and music of the world's people; and seminars in composition aesthetics, jazz improvisation,chamber music, and general musicianship. Areas of concentration include piano, instrumental, composition and vocals.
New World School of the Arts was created by the Florida Legislature as a center of excellence in the performing and visual arts. It is an educational partnership of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Miami Dade College and the University of Florida.
