2020 Orientation Booklet for reference – What to expect!
NWSA 2020 Orientation Alert: After considering the unprecedented situation of COVID-19, the 2019-2020 Orientation fee has been reduced from $100 to $25.
Plans for Orientation 2020 are still being solidified and will be updated on this page.
Students who have paid the $100 fee will be refunded, less the $25 fee.
Furthermore, as the start date for Fall 2020 has changed to August 31st, NWSA’s Orientation has been moved from August 17-20 to August 23-27.
We ask for continued patience as we all work through this very difficult and ever-changing situation.
NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION – FRESHMEN AND TRANSFER STUDENTS
New students are required to attend NWSA’s New Student Orientation, August 23-27, 2020. There, you will learn about the campus, become familiar with many of the services available to you, meet the deans of your division, meet other students, and much more.
How do I access my UF/MDC email?
MDC - Once you are admitted to MDC, go to mdc.edu, click on Student Portal, and then click on Create a student account.
UF – Once you are admitted to UF, you will receive an invitation code via email (the email address used on your application) to create your Gatorlink account. Once received, go to my.ufl.edu, click on “Access MYUFL”, then click “create account”, enter UFID and Invitation Code. If you have not received your invitation code by email, call the Helpdesk at 352.392.4357. Remember, once admitted, UF only communicates to students via your UF email account, you will not be able to forward your UF email to another email address.
Are meals provided during Orientation?
Yes, meals will be provided for all participating students each day of Orientation beginning with continental breakfast. Date of breakfast for 2020 is TBD.
When do I register for classes?
New students will be contacted by their divisions to schedule advisement and registration appointments beginning in June, 2020. Division assistants will register students for their arts and academic courses. The NWSA division assistants serve as your academic advisors for your lower and upper level courses. We strongly recommend that students utilize their division assistants, as they are most familiar with the NWSA curriculum. You will also have an opportunity during Orientation Week to make changes to your schedule.
MDC may contact you regarding attendance at a Miami Dade College New Student Orientation session. NWSA’s orientation serves as your orientation, you may attend the MDC orientation at your discretion.
I need to move to Miami, how can I find out about off-campus housing?
Refer to our housing guide at parent resources for housing. We also have a Roommate Finder application located in that link as well. The Roommate Finder is a way for future students to find suitable roommates and living arrangements in the Miami area. Students who turn in their Roommate Finder application will be placed on a list serve and will receive listings for available housing as they come available.
