New World School of the Arts dance training is conservatory-based, grounded in classical ballet and incorporating dances of different cultures and newer forms. Supporting studies are in choreography, music, dance history, anatomy and kinesiology, movement analysis and dance production. NWSA is recognized internationally for the success and artistry of its professional alumni, for its distinguished professional faculty, outstanding dance curriculum, productive relationship with many international and national ballet and modern dance companies, the multi-cultural nature of our faculty and student body, and excellent facilities provided for dance.
Professional Faculty
The NWSA dance faculty bring a diverse range of professional expertise, experience, and professional recognition to support the students throughout their studies. The curriculum provides a broad base of knowledge and skills, which emphasizes creativity, performance, and depth of understanding of the art form. The faculty have performed in some of the nation’s most prestigious dance companies, including Dance Theater of Harlem, Martha Graham Dance Company, and Paul Taylor Dance Company. They have also performed on Broadway and commercially with such performers as Michael Jackson and Destiny’s Child and have degrees from among the most respected institutions in the country including The Juilliard School, Florida State University, New York University, Boston Conservatory and many more. They are professionally practicing artists as choreographers, directors, performers, and scholars who share their passion and dedication to support student achievement and excellence.
Alumni
NWSA BFA graduates advance their careers in the field of dance as professional dancers, choreographers, rehearsal directors, artistic directors, and teachers. They run dance companies and schools, create works, and collaborate with directors and artists in a variety of ways. In addition, many go on to have careers as physical or dance therapists, doctors, scholars, managers, and specialists in many areas. NWSA dance alumni have been invited to join numerous world-renowned companies such as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Martha Graham Dance Company, Limón Company, Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Ballet Hispánico, Jessica Lang Dance, and Pam Tanowitz Dance. In addition, alumni perform on Broadway and in New York City in works such as The Lion King, Sleep No More, Company XIV, and many others.
